Last night at dinner, my dear husband said to me, “English is my second language. Since I met you, my first language is love”. How sweet. :) 

美麗的雪飄完後變成大雨直直落
豪雨下了兩天 我們地下室也淹水了 地毯全泡湯 還有一些箱子 還好放在地上的東西不多
以為只是我們房子太老舊了
結果西雅圖很多地方都災情慘重 很像台灣的颱風過後

趁機把Thom的辦公桌椅跟電腦搬到樓上 Living room改當辦公室用
現在要煩惱如何清洗地毯跟重新整理地下室
想到要搬動那些書桌 書架 檔案櫃 跟我數不清的書 就一個頭好幾個大

The first snow in Seattle this winter came in the afternoon yesterday. As soon as Eli woke up from his nap, I told him it’s snowing and opened curtain to show him. He was very excited. Later in the afternoon, he went out with Daddy to play in the snow. He got his hat, gloves, snow pant, fireman rainboot, and big jacket on. Very cute. They made a snowman family (Mommy, Daddy, Eli, and baby) in our front yard.

It’s snowing again this morning, pretty heavy. We were planning on going to Grandma’s and cutting our Christmas tree with Li and Li-Chia, but it’s snowing. Daddy is still going. He said it’s family tradition, got to go with everybody. Since we have the four-wheel-drive SUV, there will be no problem driving in the snow. Anaya is still so little (and it’s so cold outside), so I decided to stay home with Anaya. Daddy takes Eli to find us a perfect X’mas tree. Then we can put it on tonight and start our Christmas month.

他們在前院做了個雪人一家四口 不過今天早上已經雪融 — 倒了

今天早上雪繼續下 很美 但很冷
本來全家要跟奶奶他們去砍聖誕樹 最後是派伊寶跟他爹去
還好現在我們有四輪傳動車 才能在西雅圖的下雪天出得了門 不過我很擔心其他駕駛人亂開亂滑啦
雖然很可惜今年我們不能去 不過外面看了就覺得很冷 還是摟著Anaya窩在家裡看雪較實在溫暖

Eli can spell his name, “E, L, I, A, S” correctly tonight, at 27 months of age. YEAH!!! We were very excited, but we thought about it more. His Daddy has taught him and repeated his name to him every night when they see “Elias” on the door on their way into Eli’s room after bath since Eli was very little.

Eli is very into dinosaurs now. Daddy would read dinosaur books to him. He can recognize several types of dinosaurs and pronounce names of dinosaurs perfectly. He recognizes and says “octagon” correctly, like the STOP sign is the shape of octagon.

Eli keeps surprise us on his language development. His memory is very good. He would say some things or sing some songs out of our surprise, even in Mandarin. A lot of the words we might have said for only a couple of times a while ago or some songs we might have played to him repeatedly without paying attention to those songs ourselves, but Eli would just sing a song that we could not even remember at different times when he is in good mood.

We know education is a life-time effort, but we know our hard work is showing its effects.

Eli is learning to be more independent and have some control over things. These few nights, he has been fighting with us for the pajama he wears to bed. He never likes the one Daddy picks for him. He would keep saying “no, no, I don’t want that one”, and start to cry. Even if Daddy managed to put it on him, he would cry and fight to take it off. We usually ask him what he wants instead and let him help choosing one that he likes to wear for the night. However, when we show him the choices of pajamas, he always says “no” to everyone of them, “I don’t want that one”. Last night , it took us over 20 minutes for the pajama battle, but he still didn’t want any of them. Daddy finally decided that’s it and put the same one he put on for Eli (which he wanted the night before) and ended the battle. Eli just protested for a little bit and accepted it. Then Daddy read to him when he finished his milk. Mommy read to him in bed. He fell asleep pretty quick afterward, and slept through the night (8:50pm-6:20am), one of the very rare times… This was just one of the events that he is trying to learn to be independent and take contol of things, a typical learning stage for a 2-year-old toddler.

今年時間選在10:30am 而且他也比較大了 所以雖然當天陰雨綿綿 他還是很興奮 很開心的坐火車

前兩天看到了Thomas and Friends on the Big Screen 的活動 是伊寶很愛的Thomas
又可以帶這麼小的小孩進去戲院 讓他講話 興奮亂動 也不用怕被噓跟白眼
而且票價合理 $7/person (Kids under 2 are free) 在伊寶的好精神好心情黃金時段
“As a special bonus, all ticket holders will receive a complimentary Thomas & Friends activity book and a Wal-Mart gift card valued at $5.00.” Wow, what a good deal.
因為是One Day Only and only in certain theaters 馬上跟老公商量後 在開放購票的第一天午夜 就上網訂了票 當作他滿兩歲的生日禮物之ㄧ
已經可以想像伊寶到時興奮的樣子了

我婆家每年有固定的國慶日慶祝活動. 我覺得蠻有意思的, 尤其是自己去買大型煙火來放, 然後欣賞跟比較誰家放的較炫. 很傳統的美式過法.

Finally, my dissertation defense is scheduled on 4/19, 11am. We are so glad for its coming. 7 years… There must be an end. We want our quality family life back so bad. There are a lot of great plans after my graduation. We are so looking forward to it. But, first of all, wish me best luck on that day. Hope I pass it without too much struggle. ^___^
